The Determiners of the Eight Winds is Olvunter's largest trading company, with trade routes stretching across the globe. They played a large part in Kara's entrance to the world stage and remain Kara's largest trading partner.

==Background==
The Determiners of the Eight Winds is a mega mercantile company formed by the Merchant Princes of Dormas. These princes were wealthy individuals and families who formed the loose federation government of Dormas. They use DEW to connect the world with trade and further each of their specialties to gain even more wealth and power. The Determiners have a hand on every continent and in almost every port west of [[The Adredahn]], connecting and facilitating the flow of goods and services across the seas. Positions as Merchant princes are not based on hereditary lines but instead on the merits and wealth of each individual. Within the last century, DEW has increased its interest in sovereign trade posts in the [[The Wilden Wood | Wilden Wood]] and south of [[Yariel]], forming colonies as they grew.

==The Merchant Princes==
Each of the Merchant Princes is not only the leader of their respective regions in Dormas but also controls various sectors and specializations within The Determiners. These princes exert incredible control over the wider world through a near monopoly of trade, each having their specialties and focuses that they use to set themselves apart.

'''Cheel Alarian''': Merchant Prince of the Alarian Company. Their company trades in spice, which they hold the secrets to. They have recently begun to lose power as their spices have started to be grown in other locations.

'''Illaria Desenacis''': Newest Merchant Prince. She is known for unifying the temples in the northern islands into a single organization. She is seen as untrustworthy due to her ties to the old religions and profiting from church services.

===Dew in Kara’s history===
The Determiners have had a sizable hand in the history of Kara. While it was the third King of Stonebay, His Majesty Ulysses I Mountbatten, first of his name, opened the ports of Kara for trade, and the Determers of the Eight Winds added Kara to the trade maps. DEW has been the gateway for Kara for hundreds of years, being one of the only companies that can navigate through the thick fogs and storms surrounding the land.

===Trade with Kara===
DEW is Kara’s largest trade partner, being their source for many magical and mundane goods that enter Kara’s shores. The Determiners maintain a trade warehouse on the docks within the City of Stonebay. From here, DEW ships lay low in the water, heavy with goods, unloaded their imports, and loaded back up with commodities and materials only found in Kara. DEW works with local institutions like The Royal Bank of the Bay and their trade post to facilitate their import and export operations in Kara. Kara presents a unique situation for the Determiners when it comes to currency. As the world's default trade force, most places trade in DEW-minted gold coins, while Kara uses locally minted silver, meaning they have to convert and manage the flow between the two currencies.

===Recent events===
Recently, DEW became increasingly interested in some items only found in Kara. They set up a program and reactivated their trade post within Kara to export as many unique items as possible. They hired many Karans and caused a massive influx of silver into the economy.

Soon after, the export program started to wind down, and Kara was informed that a delegation from The Determiners, including the Commodore of the Accordant Archipelago, would be arriving soon. The whole affair started with a [[Determer's Gala | masquerade ball]] to introduce the representatives from DEW to Kara while hiding their true intentions for their visit, which was the recovery of a “Command Stone” stolen by a group called [[The Figh |Figh]]. A mire of intrigue, secrets, backstabbing, and backroom conversations followed, leading to [[Face Stealer Conflict | war with the face-stealer demons]]. The Determiners ultimately worked with Figh and the [[Kingdom of Stone Bay|Kingdom of Stonebay]] to rid Kara of the [[Face Stealers| face-stealers]] and undo the damage caused as best they could, all while sprinkling their influence into the minds of Karans. This combined effort and an act to preserve The Dermerners Of the Eight Winds' connections with Kara led to the signing of the “Command Stone Accord” between all three parties, restoring peace and trade.

Sillas Deepcreek has maintained a persona that is for the people and by the people, even after rising to the ranks of [[Prime Minister of Stone Bay]], [[Chaplain of the Deep]], and briefly - [[King of Stone Bay]]. He is deeply committed to the [[Church of the Deep]], describing it as his life's work. His actions can almost always be tied to one, or both, of two things: having a laugh or growing the faith. While rather adept at the political machinations of Stone Bay, Sillas, in recent years, has pulled back from the active manipulation of these systems. Instead, he utilizes the many leaders within the Church of the Deep to ensure that their influence is felt and that the smaller-folks of Kara are not tossed to the wayside.

Hailing from a large farming family within the Principality of [[Adenosa]], his mental strengths do not rely on knowledge found in colleges or libraries. Instead, he is charming and charismatic - pulling real-world examples and metaphors to explain the world around them. As a Chosen Hand of Sanaquas, Sillas considers himself one of the few people within the world who has the right to speak on the Titans in a factual way. While wearing a facade of a priest of the people, Sillas has historically utilized his might - both divine and mortally-given - to ensure his will is brought to reality.

=== Adenosan Childhood ===
His Holiness' life began in Adenosa, the son of Maria and Sillas, Sr, a couple who sired many children as many agricultural families do. A working-poor family, he was not properly educated in a school house, instead taught at his mother's kitchen table. For the first 100 years of his life, he worked on his family's farm and was the heir-apparent for their family's work. Just after his 126th birthday, the man began to notice ships sailing on the surface of the water above their farm. In what he describes as "a moment of boredom," he chose to follow them out of the Principality of Adenosa and to the islands of Kara.

=== Arrival in Kara and Early Months ===
Arriving on the islands, he took up a job doing what he knew best - farming. Within a settlement to the west of the [[City of Stone Bay]], he planted great fields of wheat and potatoes to supply the residents with food and make a meager living. It was not until a witch within the woods of Orlan whipped a great deal of the small-folk into a frenzy did Sillas' journey truly begin in Kara. This witch convinced a number of Karans to steal from the aristocracy of Stone Bay, which lead to the arrest of Sillas. Charged with an engorged number of crimes within an ecclesiastical court, [[Boris Bejewelled Johnson]] found him guilty and punished him with a sentence that would grow to be rather ironic: never becoming a citizen of Stone Bay, and never joining the Church of the Deep.

Months later, a dwarf by the name of [[Ordren Stoneheart]] stumbled upon Sillas Deepcreek and lead him to a temple within the wilds of Orlan. Within it, the Lord Mother, [[Sanaquas]], the Titan of the Sea, claimed him as a Chosen Hand of Sanaquas and charged him with growing Her faith. As tale of this spread, then Lord Mayor, [[Ulysses Mountbatten]], approached the elf regarding the Church of the Deep. After conversation, Sillas agreed to the position of Chaplain of the Deep. His friendship with Ulysess grew, and Sillas was appointed as the Deputy Mayor of the City of Stone Bay, and upon the reformation of Parliament, Prime Minister of Stone Bay.

=== The First Deepcreek Premiership ===
It was during his premiership that the Kingdom of Stone Bay went through a transformation. The factions within the government that enjoyed unquestioned power were sidelined, and ultimately removed from power itself. The city's gates opened for none-citizens to relocate within it and the beginnings of the City of Stone Bay we know today began. During his time as Prime Minister, Sillas reduced the power of the Court of the Deep, argued and won parliamentary representation for other faiths, and faithfully lead the government through the war against [[Arimaex Glisk]] - including bringing Ulysses Mountbatten to the side of those against the lich. His premiership lasted for 11 years of relative peace as the nation was reformed. Sillas' fingerprints are on many of the foundation changes, both structurally and culturally, that made way for the Kingdom of Stone Bay today.

=== The Rise of the Church of the Deep ===

Throughout Sillas' premiership, the Church of the Deep did very little aside from open membership to all Karans, not just citizens of Stone Bay. Upon the resignation of government duty, Sillas returned to his pact with the Mother, Sanaquas, and focused his energies towards growing the faith. With a newly constructed chapel, Sillas preformed rituals to seal [[Arimaex's Tower of Bird Gander's]] and eventually asked the sea to claim it. It still resides off the coast of Orlan in its watery grave. In these early months of retirement, the first clergy was formed - made up of loyal acolytes, prominent Karans, and simply the rich. It was distinctly different than the Clergy of the modern kara, in which its body is made up of priests and paladins utterly devoted to the Church of the Deep itself. The Church's membership grew rapidly during this period, representing anywhere between 30% to 50% of the islands' population. In this time, the Church of the Deep was a prominent political body - with some muttering that Sillas' never truly stepped away from politicking, only stepped away from the responsibility of governing. During the [[Occupation of Stone Bay]], the Church of the Deep, lead by [[Fafnir Deepcreek]] in Sillas' absence, played a large role in the organization of the rebellion that would unseat the Archon, [[Macadier Maldore]]. This period included rituals to bring the Hag, Auntie [[Morgantha]] back to life, magics to cloud the minds of Karans working against the Archon so that he could not delve into their memories to find their plans, and ultimately, the short reign of Sillas I, a necessary seizing of the [[Prismarine Throne]] to utilize it in a successful attempt to return Ulysess Mountbatten, [[Blue Mountbatten]], and [[Arthur Justice,]] from their forced leave of Kara.

During the war against the Colony of the [[Ehrtfort]], the Church of the Deep earned its position within the modern Kara as a religious body loyal to both the Throne and small folks of Kara.

== Personality ==
After years of conflict, Maldore's personality was as divisive as his methods. Maldore believed himself to be empathetic, kind, and helpful towards others—until you disagreed with his beliefs. He believed that if people could not meet his standards, he would get angry and shut them off.

Maldore always believed himself to be right, even when he wasn't. As an enchanter, he would read other people's thoughts, and try to align other people's views with his. For Maldore, magic damage was significant enough to justify sacrifices made to end it. Ultimately, he was a pessimist. His expectation of people was that "they would fail him", and his only hope was that those he cared about did not die in pursuing his goal.
== History ==
Little is known of Maldore's early life. According to stories he'd tell his supporters, Maldorewas born as Louis Maldore in [[Ylga]], north of Nieseat. When he was 12, a recruiter from the [[Emerald Institute]] invited him to study in their institution. The Maldores initially turned the offer down, only to send him off a year later, when a gifted children's program for the poor allowed his enrollment despite their finances. In the Institute, Louis changed his name to "Macadier" and began his studies under the archmage [[Asmis Yldram]].

For 5 years, Maldore studied at the Emerald Institute. He shifted his studies to a part-time endeavour and returned to Ylga, where a war between the noble families of Nie and Sudal were tearing his home apart. Desperate to end the war, Maldore joined an unnamed group with the symbol of a stag. During the war in Ylga, Macadier watched all his friends die barring one: the "shining beacon" known as Leondar Ithsum, the Paladin of Light. Ithsum's light did not save him from death. Maldore found him in a cave, dagger in hand, and a shadowy figure upon the walls of the cavern. Realising this shadow had ill intentions and believing Leondar was corrupted, Maldore enchanted him to commit suicide. His stories claim that the shadow wanted to work with him, but Maldore declined and left the cave a changed man. Ithsum's death affected Maldore for the rest of his life. With his help, the Sudal family surrendered to the Nie's, and Maldore moved on from Ylga.

===The Purge of Nieseat===
Maldore travelled to the Grand City of Nieseat, only to find it in a state of quiet war. Nieseatian nobles used mages and merchants to their benefit, terrorised civilians with these mages on their payroll, and created a society of fear. Learning from the Nie-Sudal War, Maldore initiated [[The Purge]]. This was a year-long revolution, starting with Maldore killing those who perpetrated these actions. Mages who would not be bound by his enchantment were killed, as well. Anyone who attempted to stop him, magical or not, were also executed. Eventually, after months of bloodshed, Nieseat turned to him for a leader. Under him, The Purge was a cleansing act. In modern Nieseat, it is considered a massacre.

===The Collins Affair===
During [[Timeline#Season_1|Season 1]], Maldore appeared only once. [[Dragone Collins]], a Nieseatian diplomat, died in [[Kara]]. When news of this reached the Archon, he lobbed a massive fireball at [[Stone Bay]] and sent Nieseatian officials to Kara en masse. Maldore called for the death of then-Prime Minister [[Sillas Deepcreek]] and others who did not bend to his demands. In retaliation, Lord Mayor [[Ulysses Mountbatten]] took his [[marshals]] and killed all Nieseatian politicians in the kingdom, sending them back to Maldore "in body bags."

This period of tension was defused when Maldore and Mountbatten signed a non-aggression pact between the two polities. Maldore would not be seen in Kara again until nearly eleven years past [[Arimaex]]'s defeat.

===Colony of the Ehrtfort===

Over time, Maldore's goals of neutralising magic grew beyond Nieseat's borders. He planned to create zones of enchantment which could affect entire cities. People walking into these zones would be unable to use magic, and any attempts would bring about the wrath of his [[inquisitors]]. Without his explicit permission, nobody would be able to use magic.

There was one huge hurdle for the Archon. Natural laws of magic stated that "nothing was permanent", and his places of non-magic would eventually disappear over time. He spent years researching and working on solutions until he completed the plans for the Arcane Battery. This was a tool he could use to amplify his [[Realitas]], permanent magic, and force his will of antimagic forever. Maldore returned to Kara, intending to use it as his testing grounds due to the rare convergence of leylines on the island of [[Felanah]]. There, he established the Colony of the [[Ehrtfort]], where he would rule Nieseat, govern the colony, and work on completing the Arcane Battery.
